About Me

Dai stihó, I’m Anthony Magnia (he/they) — a queer, multiracial Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and founder of Konnected Therapy. I offer creative, identity-affirming, and geek-friendly therapy for individuals, couples, and groups navigating the intersections of trauma, queerness, neurodivergence, culture, and community across California.
Finding My Way
I grew up in California’s conservative Central Valley, raised by a single mother and a father in the military. As the first in my immediate Chicano family to attend college, I began building a life beyond survival — one that embraced queerness, creativity, and community care.
Like many of the clients I now work with, I often felt like too much or not enough — not Mexican enough, too brown, too queer, too nerdy. It wasn’t always safe to be myself. I found refuge in literature, anime, video games, and fantasy. These worlds offered a safe haven and showed me that identity could be a source of power, not just pain.
Purpose Through Support
Coming out as a teen was both painful and liberating. I founded my high school’s first GSA, faced public backlash, and lost family connections — but I also found my purpose. Supporting queer youth and those on the margins taught me that healing and advocacy could go hand-in-hand.
At UC Berkeley, I earned my BA in Psychology and immersed myself in peer support, queer advocacy, and creative student programming. Whether I was organizing a campus-wide Day of Silence, teaching a course on the cultural significance of X-Men, or helping someone navigate a coming-out journey, I kept finding myself in spaces where trust, identity, and healing could grow together.

How I Show Up
Supervisors describe me as grounded, empathetic, and creatively insightful. A manager once called me “Mr. Practical” for my collaborative problem-solving skills. Peers have referred to me as a transformational presence — someone who fosters courage, safety, and connection in those around them.
My Training and Approach
I received my Master’s in Counseling Psychology from The Wright Institute in 2023. As a therapist, I integrate evidence-based modalities like EMDR, LGBTQ-Affirmative CBT (via Yale LGBTQ Mental Health Initiative), and narrative therapy. When appropriate, I also bring in geek metaphors, expressive arts, and character work rooted in roleplaying, curiosity, and identity play.
For me, healing isn’t just about symptom reduction — it’s about rediscovering and honoring the parts of you that were once silenced or shamed. It’s about reclaiming them with pride.
